This is one of the works that were developed for the theme; " works associated with Odawara and Hakone".
There used to be a small zoo at the foot of Odawara Castle. In the zoo there was one female elephant who was quite famous. The elephant, named UMEKO, passed away a few years ago. She enjoyed eating apples. Perhaps she is still eating an apple in the great beyond. This workis modeled after the elephant Umeko.
